I will always stand by It’s a 10 for a multi-purpose in-hair product, but if putting things into your hair to make it healthy isn’t your style, then this is the post for you.
The Problem: Hair that feels significantly more rough when you wake up than it did when you went to bed.
Have you ever noticed that your hair feels soft and silky before you go to bed, but then tangled and rough when you wake up the next morning? A lot of people attribute that to the fact that you’re laying on your hair while you sleep, and/or moving around directly on top of it.
The Solution: Get a Satin Pillowcase
While putting pressure on your strands does muss things up a bit more, the biggest culprit I’ve found are the cotton pillowcases I used to sleep on.
After I made the switch to a satin pillow case, my hair was just as smooth as when I went to bed, and there was less fallout on/around my pillow over time.
Satin? Sounds Expensive.
Confession: I am super stingy with some things in life, one of them being pillowcases. I can never bring myself to spend big bucks on a) something no one else will see and b) something I am practically unconscious and drooling on for about 8 hours a night. In the past, I’ve used whatever jersey or flannel pillowcases come in the sheet sets I’ve gotten on sale from Target. I thought that they were fine until I started growing my hair out and noticing that it felt way more straw-like in the morning than it did before I went to bed.
Yes, satin can get expensive, BUT I’ve found a great company who sells satin pillowcases specifically marketed towards hair health at an affordable price. (And before you ask – no – they are not sponsoring this post!)
Morning Glamour pillowcases are $24.99 for a set of two pillowcases, or $12.99 for one pillowcase. They come in a variety of colors and prints, and more importantly, they don’t slide off your pillow when you’re sleeping! This is definitely worth noting because I had also purchased a set of satin pillowcases from another company online, and they were quite slippery-slidey on my pillow.
Where To Buy
You can purchase satin pillowcases at department stores, like Macy’s or Bed Bath and Beyond, but warning: they are pricey. You can get Morning Glamour pillowcases online through their website, or I’ve seen them available at Bed Bath and Beyond.
Other Pros of Satin Pillowcases
- Since satin is so soft and smooth, sleeping with a satin pillowcase can mean less wrinkles on your face.
- Satin is breathable and stays cooler. If you’re face is cooler at night, it may produce less sweat/oil (especially in the summer!) which can mean less acne.
